Wooden Bench in Forest

In modern times, there has been a notable shift towards flat-packed furniture made of non-renewable wood, held together with a chemically loaded adhesive, and manufactured to be as cheap as possible.

While furniture is a necessary component of our homes, it need not leave a huge environmental impact.

Sustainable Furniture hopes to restore equilibrium to the environment by promoting ethically sourced and reclaimed furniture.

This article discusses how we source and use reclaimed wood, as well as how to style these pieces in your home.

What is furniture reclamation?

Reclaimed furniture reuses timber that has had prior use, resulting in stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces for your home.

Giving wood a second chance by upcycling it into a fresh creation has many ecological advantages and results in classic furniture that always stays in style.

Dining sets, bookcases, and desks are among the more popular interior pieces made from reclaimed wood and cherished by their owners. However, no matter the room or furniture requirement, reclaimed furniture makes a beautiful addition.

Reclaimed wood combines high quality, history, and individuality in every piece; choose sturdy furniture with personality by shopping for reclaimed wood furniture.

Where is reclaimed wood sourced from?

Reclaimed wood often originates from forests where the wood has been previously harvested and used for new purposes. Yet, you can also obtain wood from old structures that are no longer fit for use and destined for landfill, such as:

  • Shipyards
  • Old Industrial Buildings
  • Farmyards
  • Railways Lines

Wherever your wood is sourced, you can be confident that you are purchasing quality furniture with character and history.

Our reclaimed wood ethos.

Founded in 2007, our family-run business thrives on an extensive background in furniture retail and a passion for all things sustainable.

Our objective has always been to offer ethically and sustainably produced goods. To do this, we ensure that every element of the business is conducted eco-consciously throughout the entire supply chain.

We acquire goods derived from forestry protected by commissions and ensure that replanting occurs while deterring illegal logging. When logging has to happen, it is done so in an environmentally conscious manner by using techniques including thinning to encourage the growth of new trees nearby.

To make the ground reusable, removing the tree roots from previously illegally logged land is crucial for re-plantation. In addition, we ensure these tree roots never go to waste, as they comprise our Teak root tables.
