Engraving & Plaques
Sustainable Furniture offers both engraving onto our memorial benches generally across the top rail of a bench or engraving onto a plaque.
Engraving into the timber is an in house service which we offer on our memorial benches and the benefit of this is that if we need to work to a tight timescale, our engravers are ready and can turn a bench out sometimes even with 48 hours. Under normal circumstances, please allow a week to 10 days. We offer our engraving in capital letters which looks elegant and stylish and is certainly a lovely way of celebrating the life of a lost loved one.
Your wishes are always respected although we are very happy to offer personal, empathetic and professional advice should you need help with phrasing. We want to make the ordering process as simple as possible and there are many decisions to make so please telephone us if you need assistance, help or reassurance.
Most of our memorial benches will accommodate one line of text to convey a message on a memorial bench. However, two lines can be carved where the top rail allows, for example our Oxford Bench will accommodate 2 lines.
It should be noted that many people love offering an engraved bench to celebrate a monumental wedding anniversary or birthday. What a fabulous present! We have also found it quite popular with young Mothers who ask us to engrave their children’s names into the bench and then give the bench for a birthday present for hubby – excellent idea. We have engraved benches for wedding presents and with the married couple’s forenames either side of a love heart – a very special present for life.
We offer our wood engraving at £4 per letter and please note that our memorial benches are generally unassembled so if you wish your memorial bench to be assembled, please ensure that you ask for this service.
We don’t have a maximum number of letters as we can often make recommendations if the wording is too long so please do not hesitate to ask if you have a specific request.

4 x 2” priced £55,
6 x 2” priced £65,
8 x 2” priced £75.
Our commemorative plaques are offered in conventional and popular brass, bronze - probably slightly more sophisticated and not so prone to tarnish or stylish stainless steel for a more contemporary look. These plaques are secured to the memorial bench with 4 matching screws in each corner.
We can usually accommodate many words on a plaque and also some selected images can also be added if required. When selecting the size of a plaque it is a good idea to think about the relative size of the plaque against the size of the memorial bench. For instance, a 4 x 2” plaque would look lost on an 8’ long bench. Likewise with the wood engraving, we are here to help and if you need some suggestions regarding layout, etc, please do ask. Plaques are generally ready after one week and we can offer any style of font you wish.
Many of our customers wish to place their chosen memorial bench in church grounds or a public place and it may be that you require to anchor your memorial bench down to the ground. We offer hard ground anchor kits and soft ground anchor kits. Anchor Kits can be bought here.
